Altahammond Wedding barn

Altahammond Wedding Barn is one of the best wedding barns in Northern Ireland. Indeed, just this week it picked up a gong at the Northern Ireland Wedding Awards. As a wedding photographer, I love photographing weddings here.

Fate brought me to Altahammond Wedding Barn, as Annette and Sandra had another photographer booked. Unfortunately the photographer got Covid and that’s where I stepped in. On that fateful day, this incredible wedding barn, became one of my favourite venues!

An Exclusive Wedding Barn

Who doesn’t love the words ‘Exclusive’. That’s exactly what you get at Altahammond Wedding Barn. Your wedding will be the only wedding of the day, with all the grounds and function rooms available for you and your guests to use and enjoy.

Altahammond History

Altahammond Wedding barn has a wonderful history. In keeping with its rural location, the wedding barn has an equally rural history. Indeed, the ‘Main Barn’, which today is used for the ‘Wedding Breakfast’, started life in the 1830’s as a ‘Beef Byre”. In this ‘Beef Byre’ Aberdeen Angus cattle were tied up and weighed before going to Belfast for the market. It even has a weighbridge for cattle built into the floor. This story and history just fascinated me!

The Owners – Tom & Heather

Tom and Heather McMaster are simply the best at what they do. This couple have been in the catering business for a long time. Starting with their famous butcher shop ‘McMasters’ of Whitehead, where beef and lamb come from their family farm to your family table. Building on their success, they then expanded into catering at weddings, serving delicious meals across many venues in Northern Ireland. As a wedding photographer, I can vouch that their food is delicious, having enjoyed it at many weddings across these lands.

It made total sense to me when I heard that Tom and Heather were behind Altahammond Wedding Barn. With their family farm food, coupled with their homely and down to earth approach, it was always going to be an amazing wedding venue.

Altahammond Accommodation

Altahammond wedding barn has astounding accommodation on site for the wedding party. Within the magnificent grounds, there is both Altahammond House and Mallard Cottage.

Altahammond House, dating from 1830 is a boutique B&B, filled with beautiful original features and luxurious soft furnishings. It epitomises luxury coupled with home comforts and is perfect for the wedding couple.

Mallard Cottage is a holiday rental cottage, that benefits from enjoying the beautiful grounds of Altahammond House. Nestled onsite, just beside the mature palm trees (which were imported as samplings from California many moons ago), Mallard Cottage is the perfect accommodation for your wedding party to relax in and enjoy,

A Quirky and Fun Wedding Barn

Altahammond Wedding Barn is quirky, fun and undeniably gorgeous! This unique venue is filled to the brim with nooks and crannies. With a rustic feel, the attention to detail is amazing.

Every room is unique and all of them will wow your guests. It’s like an Aladdin’s cave of incredible rooms! You can decorate them in your own way, adding personal touches to your wedding day. Nothing is a bother to Tom and Heather, they want your day to be just perfect.

The Reception Barn

The Reception barn, with a cosy fireplace, inviting sofas and quirky décor, this rustic room will make you and your guests feel right at home.

The Stable Barn

Inside the stable barn you will find a beautiful cobblestone floor. Many use this area to have their wedding ceremony. With light shining in from above, it is a beautiful room to have your wedding service in.

The Bar

This bar gives 10 green bottles a whole new meaning. I immediately started singing this nursery rhyme, and I wasn’t on my own! Your wedding guests will love this bar.

The Snug

Cowboy boots, riding saddles, stone walls, and a 1960’s TV, all make this the most amazing snug Co Antrim has to offer.  You have to see this room to believe it. It’s a great place for your wedding guests to relax and soak up the atmosphere. Maybe someone will even take one of the guitars off the wall and play a tune?

The Outside Inn

An amazing outside bar area, where your guests can be entertained and relax. Don’t worry about the rain at this wedding venue, Tom and Heather have thought of everything with the Outside Inn!

Altnahammond is Amazing for Wedding Photographs

As a wedding photographer in Northern Ireland, I have seen some impressive wedding venues with some impressive backdrops for wedding photos. I can confirm that Altahammond Wedding Barn is right up there with the best of them. It is the perfect venue for wedding photography on your wedding day.

This wedding barn, located on the famous Antrim Coastline, has everything a couple could look for in their wedding photos. Views stretch out across the Irish Sea as far as the Copeland Islands and Scotland. These views make for spectacular backdrops to your wedding photographs.

The gardens are beautiful, with elegant pathways, mature trees, well tended flower beds and a swing for good measure.

Then there is the rustic charm of the farm itself. Tractors and hay-bales, barn doors and stable gates. Heck, Tom even brings the vintage tractor and trailer out and transports couples to one of the higher fields where the views are just breath-taking. Be warned, this field is filled with inquisitive cows, but worth the fun of bouncing behind the tractor on a trailer filled with hay bales!

Annette & Sandra’s Incredible Wedding

I was standing in the grounds of Queens University when I first took a call from Annette. It was a Saturday and I was just about to shoot a wedding. Her words were, ‘I know its short notice, but would you be free next Saturday, our photographer has Covid’.

Lucky enough, I did have the day free, and as they say, the rest is history. The next week, I headed down to the lovely Altahammond Wedding Barn to cover what has become one of my favourite weddings ever!

I hit it off with Annette and Sandra immediately. They are my sort of people, full of fun and life and up for a bit of craic. I don’t think I will ever forget being in the middle of a field full of cows with the two of them. I thought I was going to die laughing.

Their wedding was just the best day. With their friends and family around them, Annette and Sandra tied the knot in the most beautiful and touching service. There were photos all around the place, showing the lifetime they had spent together. This was a real love story, and I was just thrilled to be there to document it.
