What is an Engagement Shoot

I often get asked about engagement photography, with most couples wanting to know if it is worth it. My answer to this is YES!

In Northern Ireland, we have some super cool places for engagement photos, from our incredible coastline to the Cathedral Quarter.

Its a casual shoot, before your wedding, where you get to have some fun, gaining 1st hand experience of what to expect on your wedding day.

Call it a dry run!

1. Get to know your photographer

On your wedding day, your photographer is the one supplier who is with you every step of the way. As such its really important that you enjoy being in their company and that you can relax with them.

But its a 2 way process!

An engagement shoot is also a good time for your photographer to get to know you. Finding out what makes you tick and what makes you smile is important for us. Your likes, your quirks and how you interact together helps us plan for your big day

2. Celebrate your engagement

Hey, you are engaged – it’s time to celebrate.

Yes there is a wedding to plan, but also take time to enjoy this special time.

Its likely that you will be filled with excitement and anticipation of what lies ahead. Taking time out for an engagement shoot is the perfect way to enjoy ‘just being you’.

3. Help you chill and relax in photographs.

I wish I had a penny for every time someone said to me ‘I hate getting my photos taken’. But that’s always before the shoot!

Engagement photography is a great opportunity to test the water, and see what its like to be in front of a camera – before your big day.

Just think of it as a dander with friends.

You’ll will learn that its actually great craic. By the end of it, you will be rocking it and will say to me – hey we enjoyed that!

4. Find out you don’t need to pose

Posing – let’s call it direction!

It’s about walking along hand in hand, just like you do when you go on forest walks or walks along the beach. I may direct you to have a glance at each other and capture the natural smile when your eyes connect.

It’s as natural as that.

We can work out your best side, talk about holding flowers and what to do about hands. Indeed, it’s amazing how many people ask me ‘what do we do with our hands’.

You may even discover that you have waited your whole life to be a ‘poser’ and hey thats ok with me too!

5. Photos to use for your wedding

Have you ever received a beautiful save the date card, with a fabulous photo of the couple – I bet this is an image from their engagement shoot.

Likewise, signing frames at weddings usually adorn a beautiful image from a couples engagement shoot – they are a great keepsake.

Showing off your engagement shoot images on your socials is also a great way to get some excitement about your upcoming wedding. Creating a reel or story is a super way to share them with your friends.

Our engagement photoshoot was an absolute dream.

I couldn’t have asked for a better photographer, she made us feel at ease, we laughed all the way through it, she fixed my dress, made sure my hair was on point and made me feel like a princess.

Whats included?

Aside from being fun:

Engagement sessions last approximately 1-1.5 hours.

We have cool city streets, amazing forest parks, castles and the most dramatic coastlines anyone could wish for. As a couple, you possibly have a ‘special place’ where you like to walk…maybe even where you got engaged?

Mileage up to 30 miles is included. After this there is a small charge per mile (45p).

You receive your beautiful edited, high-resolution images via an online private gallery. From here you can download and share your images with friends and family, and relive the fun all over again.

All engagement photography sessions cost £250.
